The numbers
Yes, the hate continues -- which I've become quite desensitized to at this point -- but at least the numbers are impressive:

Some of the things people complain about (besides it sucking, being gay, or me needing a life):
My facial hair
I didn't have the wrist-knife apparatus brandished by the game's star
The slow (i.e. REAL-TIME) speed of the fights
The fast speed of the credits
The Queen looks like my "mom"
The set looks like it's out of Ninja Gaiden
The fact that I have all my fingers (unlike the game's star)

Who shot this? I think more than half the problems are the shooter's fault.

He's shot stuff for Bob before, and is apparently a working, professional camera guy. I know not all the angles were perfect, but the set was designed like a stage, which limited things.

Did he do the lighting?

Yes. There was some really cool lighting filters he used, but I did notice it was much darker on close-ups. He should've adjusted. Keep in mind we had a crew on ONE. Bob and I helped, but talent can only do so much. The guy Bob had for AD never showed up or even called.

Hmmmmm, I think the camera guy was just lazy or he's not very good. If you spend a little time between shots adjusting the light, the payoff is tremendous. I've worked with one-man crews (not one-man gangs) in the past and have had nice results. Were you guys tight on time? That's the only excuse I'd buy.

We were tight on time if you figure we had to shoot all that in one night. That's four fights, basically, plus long intro/outro. Shooting you and Ruby talking games or something is apples to oranges with shooting this scripted scene, I imagine.

::shrug:: I'm done defending Aaron. I don't see much problem with the videography. If there was, it was about not having an AD present to follow the pick-up list, or me not accounting for needing a better shot of me stabbing the queen, for example (though I didn't have any idea what the set would be when I wrote it).

That doesn't matter. Bad lighting is bad lighting. You can make a good looking video with a VHS camera if the lighting is done well.

In addition to lighting properly, I would have used two cameras--one on a tripod and one handheld. This way you'd have more footage to use and the freedom to make quicker cuts, which would have addressed people's complains about the "slow" action.

Talking to Bob last night, I think my editing really attributed to the "slow" action. I basically showed EVERYTHING from the script onscreen, instead of skipping to the meat. Of course, that says nothing for the fact that people are used to sped-up fight scenes.
